Blackpool Pleasure Beach Drawing 403

General Note
Blackpool Casino was designed to form part of the Blackpool Illuminations and was designed predominantly with neon lighting.
Feature to Note
This detail shows how a luminaire was located to form a pool of light on the underneath surface of the concrete canopy. Some timber bearers are shown to be cut away to allow this light to reach out.

Most interesting is the combination of plate glass and filament bulbs to create a thin line of light, being the external edge of the glass. Another of his drawings has a note to say that the filament bulb is to be carefully rotated to make the maximum light travel through the glass. This is really trying to get the most out of the lighting technology of the time.
